‘Digital Nomad’ Visa a.k.a Workation Visa in Korea

The new Digital Nomad Visa (Workation Visa) in Korea which will be implemented on a pilot basis from January 1, 2024 offers exciting opportunities for remote workers to live and work in South Korea for up to two years. Here are the key conditions for obtaining this visa:

Eligibility:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have at least one year of work experience in your current field
  • Have an annual income exceeding 84.96 million won (approximately $66,000 USD) * Double of GNI Per capita in 2022
  • Be employed by a company outside of South Korea

Required Documents:

  • Passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay
  • Application form
  • Recent passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of employment and income (e.g., employment contract, recent pay stubs)
  • Bank statements demonstrating financial stability
  • Proof of health insurance that covers the duration of your stay

Application Process:

  • Applications can be submitted at Korean embassies or consulates in your home country.
  • Processing times can vary, so it’s best to start the application process well in advance of your planned travel date.

Additional Information:

  • The Digital Nomad Visa allows stays of up to an year which can be extended up to 2 years maximum.
  • You cannot establish a business or engage in commercial activities in Korea.
  • B-1, B-2, C-3 visa holders that meet the requirement above can switch their visa to the Digital Nomad Visa
  • The Digital Nomad Visa holders can bring their children and spouse under the same visa.
